Geocache Description:

The cache is located in bushland in the Kelmscott foothills not far from the road.

Why are we stopping here??? For a short lesson on colonial history, of course. In November 1829, an exploring party led by James Stirling chose a site for a new town on the banks of the Canning River. The town was named Kelmscott as a tribute to Archdeacon Thomas Scott (he was born in Kelmscott in England). There you have it. Ok, lesson over; now you can wake up and pay attention again. The above co-ords will lead you to a historical cairn (an historical cairn?) on which is a plaque containing some information. Once you know what the plaque says the cache will be easy to find (it's a given that my first attempt at a puzzle cache has to be nice and easy or I will most definately make a mess of it!). The cache is located at: S 32 07.055 E 116 01. #$% To obtain the final three digits of the East co-ordinate: $ = The third digit in the year the pioneer who occupied the dwelling arrived here. # = The first name of the occupant of the house (Using the formula A=1, Z=26, add the numbers together til you are reduced to a single digit number - yep, that old chestnut) % = The unit(s) of measurement used to state the distance from the cairn that the house stood. (Using the formula A=1, Z=26 ...) When you've got the co-ordinate, driving up to the top of the street bearing the same name as the occupant of the house will have you in a parking spot closer to the cache. You don't need to leave the track until you are about 32m from the cache, if it's showing differently, you might be on the wrong track.
