Geocache Description:

The holiday season is approaching, so its time for NEFGA's December event!

Details are still being worked out, but this will be somewhere in Clay County as part of our President's plan to have an event in each of NEFGA's twelve counties over twelve months. Stay tuned to this webpage, and to the forums on NEFGA for more information.

*** UPDATE 11/26/05 ***
Plans and details are now being finalized. We're going to be playing a game that tests your navigational abilities. You're welcome to use whatever equipment you'd like - GPS (of course), laptops, maps, luck, etc., to help you figure out your route.

Caches will be hidden throughout Clay County, each of which contains a special Christmas-themed paper punch. On Saturday, Dec 10 at an as-yet-to-be determined location, cachers will meet up around 12:30 PM. The teams will get a list of caches hidden for the event as well as a game card. Each team then heads out at 1 PM to find the caches, and punches their card at each cache to show that they were there. We'll all meet back up at an already determined location (N 29 59.916 W 081 40.939) to find out who the winning team is, and chow down on some of Clay County's finest barbecue. Everyone should have arrived and turned in their cards by 5 PM at the latest.

How will the winner be determined? To encourage drivers to stick to speed limits and save gas, and to reward the navigating capabilities of teams, the team that can find the caches while travelling the shortest distance will be the winner. And since gas prices are still high (though they have come down an average of 50 cents in the last month), the top three teams will be rewarded with gift cards redeemable for gasoline.

To make sure that no one goes home empty-handed, we'd like all participants to bring something for the prize table ($5 range), and teams will get to pick their prize based on their final rank.

Further info to come.

*** UPDATE 12/4/05 ***
Cache coordinates have been updated - they're now the starting point. Plan on meeting there by 12:30, so we can hand out game cards, make sure there aren't any questions, etc. The caches have been hidden, and unless some major catastrophe significantly alters the landscape, 4WD will not be required to get to them.

If possible, I'd like someone from each team to post or email me with the number of people they'll have so I can give the restaurant a ballpark figure of how many people to expect.

Six days and counting - this should be a fun time!
