Geocache Description:

Cache is large enough to hold smaller items. I will change it back to a larger container in the future if it does not get muggled again.

The property for this new city park was donated to the city of Hot Springs by the Entergy corporation. At one time this property was a small company owned neighborhood housing the operations staff for the Carpenter Dam hydro electric facility. The dam was completed in 1932. My wife remembers visiting school friends there in the 70's. As you walk around the property you will still find some of the house foundations, sidewalk steps, and the concrete foundation for the old water tank. That tank was the location of a benchmark, EJ1954. The benchmark was on the side of the tank which was removed years ago.

The park is a diamond in the rough. Park construction started around the end of 2004, and there is much more to do. When finished, the park will have hiking trails, a boat dock, pavilions, and maybe even another geocache. While not a giant park it is big enough, and will be well worth exploring from end to end.

Several years ago my wife and I would bushwhack through the area to find the thousands of daffodils that were growing around the old home sites. Parts of the new roadwork and the playground have covered some of the best flower areas. But not all of them! It will be interesting to see what flowers will appear in the spring.

Note: Coordinates correction made 12/6/06 due to trail construction.
