Scrub Campfire Cache Traditional Cache
FSUDad: Sadly, this cache is being archived because of it's location. Maybe in the future, Polk County Environmental will open this area up and we can place some more caches on the south side of the trail. Thanks to all who visited.

Cache is located in the Lakeland Highlands Scrub. You are looking for an ammo can.
There are two ways to get to this cache. If you take the short way it is a short walk past the "Scrub-a-Dub-Dub" cache. However, if you take the short way you will get wet feet during most times of the year. There are plans to install a boardwalk around the south side of the pond but for now the pond is currently over it's bank and covers the trail for about 200 feet. The water is just over ankle deep.
If you decide that wet feet is the way to go you will need to watch out for gators, you can see where they have crossed the trail from the big pond on the north side of the trail to the small pond on the south side of the trail.
If you want to keep your feet dry then you can walk the long way and grab some other caches along the way. When I placed this cache you could reach it without getting your feet wet, however, if we get some heavy rains some parts of the trail may be covered with water.
The cache is located just off the trail and requires no bushwacking. Would not recommend doing this cache during the middle of the day during the summer months as there is no shade on this part of the trail.
This area contains one of the largest undeveloped scrub communities on the Lakeland Ridge. The are numerous eco areas, including sand live oak, scrub, dry prairie, pine flatwoods, depression marsh, basin marsh and basin swamp. The Lakeland Highlands Scrub is home to at least five rare plant species, as well as gopher tortoises, eastern indigo snakes, Florida Scrub-jays and a number of wading bird species. Please tread lightly. Amenities include a parking, picnic area and portable restrooms.
To find this park, travel south from Lakeland on State Road 37 (South Florida Ave.) to State Road 540A. Turn left (east) onto State Road 540A. Travel east for about three miles. Turn right (south) onto Lakeland Highlands Road and travel south on Lakeland Highlands Road until it turns into a dirt road, passing an orange grove on the right and a man-made lake on the left. The entrance gate will be on the right. (Thanks Eagle Dad for the directions!)
