Mud Lake Nature Trail. They've laid new woodchips on the trail. There's no one around. A lone duck calls from the "lake". A perfect day to place a cache. A perfect place to place it.
Mud Lake Nature Trail is part of the nature trail systems in the Town of Quispamsis, New Brunswick. Trail maps can be found at the Town Hall, The Landing, Hampton Road. Mud Lake is a 25 acre bog surrounding 2 acres of open water and a brook. Like all wetlands, Mud Lake has an important role to play as wildlife habitat and reservoir of clean, fresh water for a large watershed. Bogs have an interesting natural history that dates back to the last ice age, over 10,000 years ago. As you walk this trail, you will pass from upland forest through stunted trees and shrubs, onto a floating bog and finally to the lake itself. The stops along the way tell the story of change over time, from water, gravel and bare rock to the present forest, bog and lush vegetation. It's amazing how nature can build such a complex ecosystem from a barren expanse of rock and gravel!
Park at N45.25.969, W065.56.737. Posted coordinates will lead you to a micro which contains the coordinates for the final cache site.
Cache is a peanut butter jar, well camouflaged to fit into the surroundings. It contains the usual logbook, pencil and trinkets.
Take time to enjoy the trails, and come back in all seasons. It's a beautiful, peaceful place that constantly changes.
