Tour de Poynter (Canterbury) Multi-Cache

Located adjacent to North Canterbury's Rivertown.

The above coordinates are not the cache's final location, but merely serve as a convenient safe place to park. Refreshments are available nearby. This 8 kilometre tour is probably best done by mountain bike though it can be done on foot. There are a number of waypoints to visit at which you will gather data enabling you to calculate the cache location. Allow 1 hour if mountain biking or 2.5 hours if doing it on foot.

Note: 14 Dec 2007: Signage has recently been placed at each end of the Poynter Track stating "No Mountain Bikes". This is currently being investigated and disputed. Proceed at your own discretion. ;-)

Data collection: It is recommended that the coordinates be visited in the following order, but this is not compulsory, to gather the data required to establish the final cache location.

Nothing required here. Just lift your bike over the gate, or slide it under the wire ropes, cross the stopbank and then veer left to join sealed road.

You can now do the maths and calculate the cache location. To get to the cache, you will need to go via waypoint TDP9 (S43 23.792 E172 39.707). Just before the farm road gate veer left about 4 metres to follow the fenced pedestrian track through the farmland. Be sure to shut all 3 pedestrian gates after you have passed through them.

The cache is situated at S 43 23.UVW E172 39.XYZ.

The cache is a 1 litre camo container containing a logbook, pencil and some trade items.

After signing the logbook, navigate your way back to where you left your vehicle. Don't forget to stop by the Silica City cache (GCN9Y9, S43 23.232 E172 39.563) to pick up some supplies on the way home.
