Geocache Description:

Take Zuni Canyon Road. This can be accessed from the Interstate 40 exit 81. Head south on state road 53 and look for signs just past the RV park. Follow Zuni Canyon Road to N35 03.963 W108 04.444. Turn left toward the cinder cone. Follow this road to cache coordinates. The road is moderately maintained but high clearance is recommended and the road becomes nasty when wet.

The Zuni Mountains are located south and west of Grants, New Mexico. The mountains are geologically and historically rich. Alongside formations of the oldest rock on Earth, Precambrian Granite, are limestone deposits loaded with brachiopod fossils and some of the youngest lava fields (basalt) in the continental United States. The cache is a screw-lid plastic tub. The coordinates will bring you to within 20 to 30 feet. The cache is at 7,831 feet (give or take ten feet or so) above sea level.
