Geocache Description:

Kennetcook, NS was the Site of the last Covered Bridge in Nova Scotia.

In 1873 a covered bridge was built in Kennetcook , Nova Scotia. It was needed to transport gypsum and timber to Selma for shipping. This was the last remaining covered bridge in Nova Scotia until 1967 when it was replaced. The roof of a cover bridge makes the floor inside more durable and it also “tricks” nervous livestock into believing they are entering a barn instead of crossing over a waterway. A painting of the Kennetcook Covered Bridge can be seen above the doors of a big white garage near the cache site.
