This cache has been archived.

Ngaambul: As there's been no cache to find or log to sign for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

A quick easy cache located just off the track in this historic location. Please replace the camouflage as you found it so others may experience the rush of the find.

On the 27th July 1836, the first official European Settlement of South Australia was begun at this location. The barque "Duke of York" disembarked the first pioneer settlers. Beset with a shortage of water and timber for building, the formal settlement lasted only 4 years, contained 42 houses and some 300 people. After the main settlement was abandoned, a few hardy souls remained and formed a strongly independent community. Enjoy the history of the area, visit the Mulbery Tree, the various plaques and take the walk up the hill to the Flagstaff to capture the view.
