Most Isle of Man visitors and locals know about the "Fairy
Bridge", on the road from Santon to Ballasalla. But I suspect that
this bridge and its mythology are made up for the tourists, to
divert them away from the real Fairy Bridge - now with a
nearby cache.
A peaceful glade is the setting for the Fairy Bridge: no traffic
noise here, although the neighbouring Loaghtan sheep may interrupt
the silence, and the brook will certainly provide a musical
background.
After entering the glade through the mysterious willow archway,
you'll find a strange world: where trees grow huge flowers, even in
mid winter, and colourful blooms cascade down an ancient structure
that retains its stonework almost as if new.
There's even a giant's bed - hopefully he'll be absent when you
visit - and a plethora of peculiar pottery.
Please respect the fairies' work and don't touch. After finding
the cache, continue up the steep bank to the bridge. The cache
contains a few small swaps - don't bring anything very large.
You could try this cache in the dark if you're not of a nervous
disposition, but be very careful around the bridge as there are
some unprotected nasty drops.
There were no illegal substances used in the production of
this cache...
