Geocache Description:

Cache is located at Rolling Thunder Prairie in Warren County. Mowed fire break to take you most of the way with some rolling hills.

Rolling Thunder Prairie is a 282 acre wildlife management area purchased in three tracts. All three purchases were made with assistance from the Wildlife Habitat Stamp Fund, a very competitive grant program financed by the purchase of $5 Wildlife Habitat Stamps required with the purchase of an Iowa hunting license.

This is a rolling area with a wooded creek, that consists mainly of grasses and forbs. it is used extensively by a variety of upland and woodland species. The 200 acres on the west side of 80th Ave. have never been plowed and contain high quality native prairie vegetation.

Rolling Thunder Prairie is open to public hunting. Pheasant season runs from the last Saturday in October until January 10th. The gun deer seasons start the first Saturday in December and run through most of January. There are also spring turkey hunts. Wear orange!

I have permission from Warren County Conservation Board to place this cache.

Went out to check on cache 11/23/06 and the fire break is no longer there. DNR must be cutting back on mowing. I have upped the terrain and difficulty on this one since there is a lot of grass and thorny stuff to go through. We went straight in through tall prairie grass and when we got to the throns went a little north to avoid most of them.

Cache is still there - just hidden very well by nature's camoflauge.
