Here at this cache you will find a Statue of an Caddo Indian, There are signs describing the history of this area. Most of this description was taken from those signs.

In 1541 this is where Hernando De Soto commander of a Spanish expedition met fierce resistence from the Indians, whom they described as the best fighting men they had met. De Soto turned southeast and descended the Caddo and Ouachita Rivers into what is now Louisiana where he died.

This region was once the home of the Caddo Indians. The Caddo River, which flows near this point, and Caddo Gap itself were named for this intelligent and gifted native American people.
