Old-Fashion River Town Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

WriterGirl: Yep, it's gone. This was a hard one to hide in the first place - lots of people milling around (even in freezing weather), geowhining about bees in the summer, and now it looks like the city workers came along and shot it with flame throwers! Anyway, I'm archiving it and have NO plans to replace it, so say goodbye to the old-fashioned river town! [:(]

Geocache Description:

An old-fashion river town deserves a cache, don't you think?

Wickliffe is just about as far west as you can go in western Kentucky. It sits on the Mississippi River near the confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio rivers. It's just one of those small towns where everyone knows everyone else (and probably everybody's business, too!).

The cache is at the perimeter of the city park. It's a nice place, not very big, but clean and neat. There's a building there that is apparently historically important, but I can't seem to get any information on it. The park has basketball courts, tennis courts, and a nice playground. It was also the site of an elementary school in days gone by. This is a straight-up cache, but watch out - muggles abound in the form of city employees who seem to always be hanging out in the park. It's such a small place, I guess there's not that much for them to do! I'm still trying to figure out why they did what they did where the cache is located, but I suppose it was to cut down on traffic through the park.

Park in the park itself (no pun intended) and walk across to the cache to avoid more attention being drawn to yourself. Please put the "camouflage" back over the cache the way you found it or it can be seen too easily. I think the park may be closed at night, so be advised that the cache may not be accessible then (in other words, if the park's closed, please STAY OUT!).

You're looking for a "Lock & Lock" clear plastic container of medium size. Original contents: log book, pencil, stash note, WriterGirl and The Boatman signature items (book and boat, respectively), elephant zcard, Donald Duck bobblehead, pocket basketball, metrogirl, tic-tac-toe puzzle, U.F.O. license, mini car, magic 8 ball. It also contains the following TBs/coins: white Jeep "Claud," Lost Pirate, Mickey Joe, and River City Bear.

If you'd like to know more about the town, the Chamber of Commerce is located on Hwy. 60 directly across from the courthouse and the lady there is very friendly and helpful. Be sure to visit Wickliffe Mounds just down the way. Happy caching!
