The Historic Liberty Theatre was the only Afro-American Theater in Columbus. Performers such as Ma Rainey and Bo Jangles graced the stage of this Theater. With the help of public funds the City of Columbus started renovation of this historic facility in March of 1995, saving it from demolition. This historic theater was completed in January, 1997 at a cost of $1.2 million. The completed facility is now used as a Performing Arts Cultural Center for the entire community, hosting musical events and plays.
