Geocache Description:

SNOWSHOES OR CROSS-COUNTRY SKIS A MUST! If you've never been snow shoeing or XC Skiing, so what! Come try something new and enjoy a new twist to your geocaching experience!!

If you can't make the snowshoe part and want to join the party afterwards, please come and enjoy the fun at JACKDADDYT's!

EVENT HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR 11 FEB 06; THIS INCLUDES THE AFTER SNOWSHOE DINNER AT JACKDADDYT'S. PLEASE DIRECT ANY QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE TO AIM HIGH!

NOTE: THIS EVENT WILL BE TOTALLY WEATHER DEPENDENT. IF SNOW IS EXPECTED, THE EVENT WILL BE POSTPONED. THE MOST IDEAL CONDITION IS SUNSHINE--TEMPERATURE IS NOT A FACTOR. STAY IN TOUCH WITH THIS PAGE AND THE UTAG FORUM FOR UPDATES. AIM HIGH! WILL MAKE THE CALL ON WHETHER IT WILL BE POSTPONED. THAT CALL WILL COME AS LATE AS THURSDAY NIGHT, 9 FEB 06.

See last year’s event to read attendee’s comments and see the great pictures that were taken: 3rd Annual Farmington Flats Snow Shoeing XC Skiing

SIGNING UP: Please note on your “will attend” log the number of people total that plan on coming with you. Please break it down to let us know whether you will attend the snowshoe portion only, snowshoe plus JACKDADDYT’s, or JACKDADDYT’s only. If there are any changes to your plans (i.e., people attending), just email Aim High! (nishidave@msn.com) with your updates. I’ll be keeping a spreadsheet of those attending.

DATE: 11 Feb 06
TIME: Be at coords no later than 8:00 AM so we can start up the canyon by 8:15 AM.
MEETING LOCATION: Posted coordinates are to the "Old Rock Chapel" parking lot in Farmington. We'll be driving up Farmington Canyon from this parking lot.
DIFFICULTY: There really aren't any steep parts to the planned snowshoe route; however, realize it will probably be cold and there's more exertion hiking in the snow. Having said that, you've probably experienced much more difficult hikes during your normal geocaching routine.
4X4 VEHICLES: If you have a 4X4 (not ATV) and feel comfortable in driving this canyon (some don't feel comfortable even in the summer!), please make a note that you are available to drive and how many passengers you can carry. It's very important that everyone remain flexible in consolidating into vehicles. There's very limited parking up top--so if your vehicle only carries driver plus one, you may be asked to move into another vehicle.
DURATION: Please plan to just make a day of it. We will definitely plan to be back down the canyon and to the parking spot by about 3:00-4:00PM. And then the real party begins!
ITEMS TO BRING: Bring water, snacks, and some kind of lunch. We'll be munching along the way. Sunglasses, sunscreen, and layering of your clothes will be important. The parking location up the canyon is in the shade all day and is cold starting out and cold when departing.
NOTE: For those that might be concerned about avalanche danger, there is no avalanche danger in the area where we will be shoeing.
DRIVING A LONG WAY AND DON'T THINK YOU CAN MAKE IT?: Don't let this deter your participation in this event. If you have a really long drive (whatever your definition is), contact Aim High! and I'm sure we can accommodate putting a few cachers up the night before and probably arrange places for others.

Again, we'll consolidate cachers into four-wheel drive vehicles for the drive up Farmington Canyon. We will drive to the "fork" and park there--this is where Skyline Drive forks and one fork heads to Francis Peak and the other continues on Skyline Drive and eventually comes out at the "B" above Bountiful. The purpose is to just get out in the great outdoors and do some snowshoeing/XC Skiing.

Here's a list of possible caches (hopefully place about 3 more before event) we may hit:

PJ's Red Can
shackin with the beavers
Shackin With the Beavers II
Light Up The Sky
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree!

If you want to attend this event and you don't have any snowshoes, contact Aim High! and he'll see if he can round up some loaners. I can probably rent snowshoes and poles for less than $5--that's an alternative. Most sporting goods stores rent snowshoes. There were 42 geocachers/friends that did this last year and it really was a beautiful hike. We don't plan on rushing the outing at all. Just plan to go at a leisurely pace and enjoy the views--bring your camera for sure!

SOUP AT JACKDADDYT'S : Once back down the mountain, we'll then make a short drive to JACKDADDYT's where hot fresh soup and other goodies will be served—more to follow on location and what you might bring. It's a perfect way to end a great day in the outdoors!! Here's directions to jackdaddyt's home: My home is located at 567 East 250 North in Kaysville. From the Rock Chapel, head north on Main Street, then north on Hwy 89. At 400 North in Kaysville, turn west. Follow 400 North until it becomes 200 North (it just winds around, so don't turn off, yet!). Turn north at 600 east, then west on 250 North. We have two big trees in the front yard.

If you have any questions direct them to Aim High!
