Johnston-Kelly Park Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Johnny_Boy_: It is obvious based on these logs that someone replaced the original hide without checking with me. The original hide is a black bison tube under the black fence cap post. Probably still there, but difficult to get off.

Geocache Description:

A fairly easy hide in a micro park in Everett. Not all of the new caches in Snohomish county are in Arlington or Marysville anymore.

In 1993 a fifth grade teacher at View Ridge Elementary wanted her class to learn about biodiversity. A neighbor who was visiting the class suggested that they clean up a green belt next to the school. The teacher and her students visited the land and saw that it was being used like a dump! The students proposed a plan to clean up the green belt and make it a nice place for plants and animals. A developer built a road off to the side of it and a few new homes nearby. The developer also built a holding pond so that run-off water from the new street wouldn't flood the green belt. Two of the parks major features: Rocky Waters for the centrally located creek bed and Marshtopia for the mitigation pond were named by the students. The third school year began, with new fifth graders. They worked to create paths in the park. They also built an amphitheater with donated logs. The park became an outdoor classroom where students could do plays and lessons. A Boy Scout built a bridge over the park's creek to earn his Eagle Scout Award. Every year third graders help the City Parks Department add new bark to the trails. In the past two years the students and the Parks Forestry crew have been working on a Native Plant Demonstration Garden by the amphitheater.

This cache is being monitored by DB Cooper's class. The cache is in a residential area, fairly near a school. Parking is limited. I have parked in front of the neighbors park across from the cache. Trying to park more than two cars right across from the park might be an issue. Please respect the neighbor's property.

There is a Canada Coin for the FTF.
