Geocache Description:

This one honors the very first geocache placed on the Oregon Coast - Arago Cliffs early February 2001.

It was archived August 2003 and shortly after Arago Cliffs too, Happy 4th was placed by paddlecacher to keep people coming to this extremely popular and picturesque spot. Unfortunately it was archived in October 2004. Looking back through the original logs I discovered many, many statements of dismay at the loss of these caches. I agree, this is just too beautiful a place to leave without a cache so I'm placing a new one to keep the tradition going. Hopefully it will have greater longevity.

Be sure to also take in the Shore Acres Botanical Gardens nearby. It is a special place to my beautiful bride and I as we were married there in 1997 on a small, grassy lawn at the east end of the pond.

The quickest access to the cache is a short trail going from a small parking turnout due east of the cache along Cape Arago Highway (See additional waypoint below). Trailhead is about 150 feet south of the parking turnout and is marked only by eight(8) cement barrier posts. About 66 paces (remember paces are two footsteps) down the trail is a fork - take a left. Another 140 paces brings you to another fork. Cache can be reached by either fork but the left is easiest. If you go the left (south) fork continue 35 more paces then switchback to the right along the edge of the cliffs. The cache is 10 paces on the north side of this small cliff-hugging path.

You may also gain access via a trail running south from the botanical gardens. This trail ties into the trail described above. There are quite a number of micro's in the area to get as well. This cache, however, is a medium sized lock-n-lock plastic container wrapped in cammo tape.

Parents should have small children stay real close because the myriad of trails often run very close to the cliff edges.

Bring your camera. Enjoy
