Geocache Description:

Before the Virgin River Gorge opened around 1973, this was a very active area. Across the highway from this cache is the road to the Woodbury wilderness study area. From (aprox.) 1920 through the 1940's, a woman called Zella operated a small store where the road to the study area is now. She sold water, soda pop, candy, beer and other things the travelers needed. Local sheepherders, miners, cattlemen and prospectors called her place a home away from home. Nearby Castle Cliffs to the north also sold water and gasoline and another place south of Zelda's and on the opposite side of the highway also sold water. A small cafe served tough steak dinners on the Utah hill where the towers are now and when in stock, sold mice for fishing bait. This information comes from the memories of my Mom and Dad, age 84 and 86. Anyone who can add to it, please do.
