Geocache Description:

This is the first of 4 letterbox hybrid caches to be place by the Geauga Park District for 2006. As Geauga County celebrates its bicentennial in 2006, the caches will have a historic theme and introduce you to the history of some of our parks. Both geocachers and letterboxers are invited to seek this cache.

Like a traditional letterbox, this cache can be found without a GPS if you'd like. Just follow the directions and clues to its location in Beartown Lakes Reservation. The middle parking lot has a sign board with a trail map. Be sure to use the trails to reach the area of the hidden cache/letterbox. Do not attempt to cross the lake.

The cache has a log/stamp book, ink pad, and signature stamp. If you have your own personal stamp, stamp the cache’s log book…or just sign it. If you have your own log book, stamp it with the cache’s signature stamp. (Please do not take the ink pad or the cache’s signature stamp.)

Geocoachers are not required to stamp the log book with their personal stamp and can proceeed directly to the listed coordinates where they will find the cache hidden.

You can find out more about letterboxing at this website…http://letterboxing.org/.

DIRECTIONS TO THE LETTERBOX/CACHE

Bears abounded in days of old,
Thus calling the land Beartown as it is told.
Rumor has it bears are back again,
In search of “Beechnuts” to fatten up before they den.
Across from Middle Bear, the trail you must take,
Until you reach a view of Upper Bear Lake.
These lakes were created as a private fishing club,
With fish hatchery, trout raceway, and lodge as a hub.
Proceed north along the lake shore,
About 200 feet or more.
Here you’ll spot a downed dead tree,
Careful looking inside, a bear you might see!

This cache expires January 1st 2007.
