Geocache Description:

Island Summit. At one of the highest point on Bainbridge Island. Spectacular wooded, public land surrounding Gazzam Lake.

There are many fine approach routes including three from the waterfront and several others accessible by foot and bike. Walking is definitely required. Even the fastest route is overgrown part way. If you find your way in by an alternative method, an easy way out is along the more open terrain to the south. I recommend using Deer Path Lane for the approach and parking (from the South) hiking up past the two large water tanks and keeping right at appropriate major and minor trail junctions! It appears that many people follow along the trail then go overland at the point where the cache is straight off the trail. This works. The best, un-official trail leaves the main park trail several hundred feet south of the cache and winds easily to it. Not bicycle ready, but better than full-on bushwhacking. This cache may the most remote cache on Bainbridge Island! There is a discrepancy between the map, GPS and altimeter elevations, between 380 and 440. However, I am fairly confident that if you are on the highest ground on Bainbridge Island, you will be a stone's throw away from this cache. Recent reports suggest that the map is good. I claim the map is pretty close and the cache is at 410 ft. The GPS altimeters tend to be highly variable. If you think of it: Please log your position and elevation when you log your find. Thanks for the data! So far (Apr 2011), I have 12 readings, mostly from GPSr output (not altimeters) and the median value is 407. The range is between 376 and 422. I received a couple of serious outliers which are not put into this calculation. Have a great hike. The final clue points you to it. The cache should be in plain site in an ammo. can.
