Geocache Description:

Who am I? is hidden alongside a good road -, safe parking place, short walk, well disguised hiding place. Altitude: 313m approximately

I was one of the first explorers, a corporal, sent by Jan van Riebeek to go to the inland from the Cape. In 1661 I crested this hill and a mere 50 years later the first wine farm was established on the slopes of the mountain I documented on the maps of the “hinterland”. The plains were filled with wildlife and the Berg River meandered through the valley. One of the cellars in the region today honours my name with one of their wine ranges – and two small villages are named after my mentor and commander.

To reach the cache in my memory:
Drive to parking place at the roadside S33°24.277 E018°52.455. The cache is hidden within a 100 m radius from the parking place. Enjoy the views and drive safely!
