Geocache Description:

This is located just off a concession road in Tiny Township. Parking is along side the road and then by foot from there. It is generally an easy walk in snow-less seasons. The path is not cleared in winter, so geocachers may want to prepare for deep snow if looking for this cache in the winter.

The Huron/Ouendat Village of Carhagouha was the location of the first mass celebrated by Father Joseph LeCaron in August of 1615 and the same Village that the Recollet order established a mission among the Huron in 1623-1624. The village was located some distance inland and in the 1920's the Knights of Columbus purchased this property to celebrate the historic event.
There is an archaeological site located near this property but it dates to circa AD 1400, somewhat earlier than 1615. So the actual village location remains an enigma but is thought to be within the general area of this location. When Father Jean de Brebeuf returned to Huronia on August 5th, 1634 the village had moved location and now formed two smaller villages.
The cache is a small lock-n-lock container covered in camouflage duct tape. It contains the log book, a Huron/Ouendat corn husk doll, replica oki (Huron Good Luck Charm), replica pottery, rope and gift certificates for the Huronia Museum (thanks to them for this one!)
