This cache is on state land. To safely get to this cache, I
strongly advise you to park at the rest area located at N42 11.578
W072 15.841.
There are two hazards you must be careful of here, one is the
fast traffic along 67 (so park in the rest area) and the other is
the steep bank going down to the swiftly flowing (at least
presently) Quaboag River. For these reasons I would suggest that
this is not a "kid-friendly" cache site.
Barney's Rock marks the site where John Barney loved to fish and
also is his final resting place. There is a plaque set up here at
the time of his death in 1923 by his friends. I'm actually anxious
to read this plaque again(I haven't in several years) but presently
it has a pretty good coat of ice on it so it is only partially
readable. This site is well known to many of the "old-timers" in
Warren. I believe John Barney was a Warren resident but I cannot be
certain. If any one has more information please let me know.
