Barely Legal Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

reedla: It is truly with a heavy heart that I archive this cache, as it was my favorite of all the caches I ever placed. A real mix of geocaching, orienteering, letterboxing, it was enjoyed by a lot of folks. This was before the time that "favorite points" were being awarded to geocaches --- I think this cache would have garnered several. I will pick up the container next time I am in Norwalk. Time will tell, perhaps I'll place another as cool as this one.

Geocache Description:

This is a Geo-orienteering cache!

You have to: 1)Find a point with coordinates, 2)Find a point with letterbox clues, 3)Find a point by (bearing, bearing) from two other points, and 4)Find a point by (bearing, distance) from present position.

Taylor Farm in Norwalk is a great place to come with your dog! No leash rules!

Directions:

Step 1.) Coordinates above are for parking, on Canfield Avenue.

Step 2.) Find POINT A at N41 05.382 W73 23.639, and face away from the lake. Stage 1 is near the center of the stand of trees immediately in front of you and slightly right. In stage one is a magnetic Bearing you will need in Step 4. 12/28/09 NOTE: STAGE 1 MAY HAVE DISAPPEARED. THE BEARING YOU NEED IS 264 DEGREES MAGNETIC.

Step 3.) Now find ”The Sailing Race” Letterbox, which is hidden in this park. (Click the link for instructions. NOTE: Select "PRINT VIEW" for printing!)

NOTE 1/27/05 - The dead tree in the Letterbox directions has blown over in a storm! SO - Return to the parking lot, and proceed north, hugging the right (east) side of the lawn until you come to the woods and are "funneled" into a trail. At the VERY beginning of the trail, pick up the Letterbox instructions where it says,"From the beginning of the trail take 33 steps...."

Make a waypoint here at the letterbox – we’ll call this POINT B.

Step 4.) Find POINT X: From the Letterbox at Point B, proceed on the bearing you found in Stage 1 (264 degrees magnetic) until POINT A bears 187 degrees from you (magnetic). STOP. Mark this spot. This is POINT X.

Step 5.) From Point X, the final cache is 326 feet away on a bearing of 24 degrees magnetic.

Note from the Owner:

The difficulty rating comes from the fancy GPS (and maybe compass) work. The actual hides aren't too difficult. In fact, in this small park, it should be pretty easy to find the final just by knowing where it can't be. But please, don't short-circuit the adventure that way, because the joy is in the journey!
