Geocache Description:

Parking 52°38.331'N, 2°09.727'W
During WWII many tricks and decoys were set up all over Britain to try and fox old Jerry, and increase our chances of victory.
With the race for better technology and trickery paramount, no idea large or small could be ignored. It was during these dark years that a most amazing and grand plan to deceive the Germans unfolded.
Paradise Airport was born !!
Arial Photo of Airport
A near full sized factory was built 2 miles from Boulton Paul Aircraft (Now Smiths Aerospace). Situated along the Shropshire Union canal north of the actual company, it boasted a dummy airfield with dummy planes and an imitation bus turning circle. The Airfield and Boulton Paul works both featured on German target maps, but only one raid was recorded against the factory.
German Map At 6.45 pm on Sunday 29th September 1940 a lone Junkers JU.88 emerged from cloud to the west diving over the factory and then swung back. It ignored the dummy factory and turned back towards the well camouflaged real thing, disregarding the mock anti-aircraft guns on top of the hill. It dropped four or five bombs that missed the factory and exploded in the Barnhurst sewage beds.
On that quiet Sunday evening the pom-pom gunners on Boulton Paul's roof must have been half asleep (Nothing new there Then !) because they did not open fire until the bombs exploded, and the bomber was flying away over Bushbury.
The JU.88 was hit, however, and may well have been the one that crashed that evening in the Nuneaton area!
Parking at the suggested position, you can park anywhere up the lane as long as you park well in on the left,
BUT NOT PAST THE GATE WITH THE SIGN (clamping).
The walk to the cache is easy going on towpath, but can be muddy in parts. Buggy friendly but not really wheelchair terrain. Original contents of box include, 1st and 2nd to find certificates,2006 diary, dog toy, wooden badge, tissues, glue stick, glitter pen, highlighter pen, note book.
This cache can also be found during the hunt for Kelly's Birthday Cache
