Geocache Description:

This is a beach themed cache located on a grass covered dune ridge about 930 north of South Beach Park and the Gold Beach Visitor Center

Take Shirley Lane west from Hwy 101 in the south part of Gold Beach to the parking lot for South Beach Park and Gold Beach Visitors Center. Take the trail to the beach west about 300 feet of the parking lot then head 930 feet north. The cache is located 110 feet east of the active foredune which is the ridge that separates the grass covered backbeach to the east from the active bare beach that is regularly washed by ocean waves. The cache is on a dune ridge that represents the fordeune that was active 30 years ago. Other dune ridges to the east have older vegetation on them and represent older foredunes (the beach has accreted, or grown westward, about 200 feet since the 1950's in this area). The cache container is a 4 inch diameter PVC pipe with screw lid that is about 15 inches long and painted appropriate camo colors to blend in where it is hidden. Cache contains a log book and various beach related items from the local gift shops including a Gold Beach shot glass for the first finder. There are quite a few glass items including some nice little refrigerator magnets. Please maintain a beach theme for this cache and remember that items have to fit inside a 4" diameter pipe. This cache can be accessed by trails from the north through several of the local motels/condos as well as from the beach access point at the fairgrounds.
