This cache is to be found in the Westfield Pill Nature reserve. It is reachable on foot or cycle from either Neyland Marina or Rosemarket. This is a popular dog walking location.The track through the pill area is about 6km long and follows the course of a disused railway line. The gradients are very easy and there is plenty to amuse the rambler, either on a scooter or a wheelchair.
The cache can be found with the minimum of effort and contains all the usual goodies along with a log book and pencils. Please be wary of muggles in the area. The swans, geese and ducks are all partial to a bit of bread so take some with you if you wish.
Along the length of the track through the reserve there are three access points where lanes cross the path. These were the old railway crossings and each has parking space for at least one car. It is best to park on the quay at Neyland, either at the car park on Brunel Quay, or a little further in up the inlet, near the marina.
The Railway line was originally built by Isambard K. Brunel’s Great Western Railway to carry fish to London. In Neyland, the quay is named in his memory and the marina buildings were erected on the site of the old railway terminus.
Westfield Pill, alongside the cycleway, is a 13 acre teeming nature reserve noted for its scarce and protected plants including Bastard Balm (a Red Data Book Species), the Green Winged Orchid, Common Broom Rape, Red Hemp Nettle, Small Toad Flax and Grass Vetchling (its own site in Pembrokeshire). These plants in turn attract some thirty two species of butterflies, the most important being the colourful Small Blue butterfly.
The wildlife haven attracts numerous birds, and the recently established lake has provided additional sanctuary for a large number of waders and wild fowl. This carefully managed reserve is also home to otters, bats and reptiles.
