Geocache Description:

Visit The Geocaching Ireland discussion forum HERE

Above the uplands drenched with dew
The sky hangs soft and pearly,
An emerald world is listening to
The wind that shakes the barley.

Above the bluest mountain crest
The lark is singing rarely,
It rocks the singer into rest,
The wind that shakes the barley
(Katharine Tynan)

This is one of the easier and more straight forward hikes in the Garden series. From the car park directly to the cache on the summit of Keadeen Mountain and back is a linear walk of 6.2K with a total ascent of 350m. You may want to add a little and take in Carrig Mountain (as shown in the map above) which would add a total of 2 more kilometres. Keadeen is one of the least known and least hiked mountains in Wicklow, perhaps because of its aloof position. The hike suggested here is a very pleasant one indeed and is suitable for all levels. One or two patches of boggy ground have been churned up a little by the motorised brigade but otherwise it is quite a user friendly path all the way to the top where there are magnificent and unique views across to Lugnaquilla. There are many other ways to reach the summit of Keadeen but one or two are extremely steep and long. The route suggested here is by far the easiest one.
The Cache:
At the coordinates above you will find a sign with two double figured numbers (they are the same numbers). Add the two together and take 20 away from your answer. Call the result AB.
Then add the two together again, multiply the answer by 10 and add 34. Call that result CDE.

The final cache coordinates will then be:

N52 57.0AB W006 34.CDE

Now drive to the car parking area at N52 56.864 W006 32.145 where you can start the hike. You will see a barrier and some forest tracks. Ignore these and climb up on the bank and walk along the forest edge toward your coordinates, keeping the forest on your right. After about 400 metres you will come to a rusty old gate. You should pass through this and the path will continue to follow the forest edge and wind all the way to the summit of Keadeen.

Keadeen Mountain is not obviously flat-topped either when seen from the N (Church Mtn) or from the contours on the map. Céide can also mean a path, way or a place of assembly, fair site, etc. One of these other meanings may be relevant in this case. As it is a townland name, it may not refer to the mountain originally.
Keadeen Mountain is the 186th highest summit in Ireland.

Do not start the trek without all the proper mountain rain gear, waterproof boots and the guidance material, compass, map, GPSr with mapping etc.

Please note that all parts of this cache are hiked at your own risk. The cache owner takes no responsibility of any sort for any reason including accidents or mishaps.

Please be aware that cars parked in areas close to walking trails are vulnerable and they can be vandalised or stolen. Unfortunately this is an ongoing problem which is extremely difficult to solve, so there is a risk involved. I have heard recently that many hiker groups are parking at the nearest population centres and getting taxis to and from the start points at very little expense.

Please observe the country code to the best of your ability. Local landowners often generously allow access to upland areas across or through parts of their private property. Please, please be conscious of this and return the courtesy by keeping all gates closed, immediately and not on your way back!. Please use the gates where appropriate but if you have to climb over them then use the hinged side ONLY.
Please do not cause any damage of any sort to fences or barriers along the way.
