Geocache Description:

On August 26, 1856, U.S. Army Captain George Pickett arrived on Bellingham Bay from Fort Steilacoom to construct a fort that would deter the attacks by “northern Indians” on the bayside villages of Whatcom, Sehome, and Fairhaven.

Soon after his arrival Captain Pickett began building a house for himself and his Indian wife "Morning Mist" on the bluff above Henry Roeder's lumber mill using planks from the mill. Pickett's house has the distinction of being the oldest building still standing in Bellingham. Pickett left Bellingham in 1861, returning to Virginia to be a successful Confederate General in the Civil War.

The home has been restored over the years, and is now available for public tours by appointment. The cache is a small lock 'n lock container with a logbook, pencil, and a few trinkets.
