How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

This is a multi-cache in a regular ammo box. The cache will take you into Dartmouth Park and then across to Sandwell Valley Country Park following the Beacon Way and Sustrans cycle way. Please keep to the well surfaced paths especially in Sandwell Valley as there are areas of special interest.

Make your way to the above co-ordinates here you’ll find two sets of dates that will be used to complete the co-ordinates for the next stage. While you are in this part of the park you may wish to take some bread to feed the Swans and Ducks.

To get your next co-ordinates, subtract the third digit from the fourth digit of the most recent date (A), for your next figure you will need to subtract the oldest date from the most recent date (B) and using the dates again take the first digit of either date to get (C) which will give you N 52 31 1AA and W 001 58 BC0.

Once at the next location you will have the following information:-

The number of miles to Swan Pool
The number of miles to Walsall
The number of miles to West Bromwich
The number of miles to Birmingham
The number of the cycle route (Blue disc with white number on red background)

To get your next co-ordinates subtract the distance to Swan Pool from the distance to Walsall (D), your next figure you will need to add the distance to West Bromwich to the distance to Swan Pool (E). To get (F) calculate (D) divided by (E). To get (G) it is simply the number of the cycle route, to get (H) add (D) to (F) and finally to get your last figure you will need to calculate (H) minus the distance to Swan Pool minus the distance to West Bromwich which will give you (J).

Cache is at N 52 31 FG1 and W 001 58 1HJ

There are two ideal parking spots, N 52 31 266 W 001 58 750 or N 52 31 183 W 001 58 483, both are free but please do take notice of the closing times when they lock the gates which are posted as you enter the park.
