Geocache Description:

This cache will come as no surprise to anyone who knows me. I’ve been collecting pigs of all sorts for over, well, um, OK, let’s just say many years. Admittedly, it is a whimsical fancy gone awry. The cache is an ammo can. Park at N 41.57.214, W 072.46.127 which is located off Route 20 in East Granby. This is a public parking area near the entrance of the Newgate Cooperative Wildlife Management Area. WATCH OUT FOR THE POT HOLES - they are deeper than they seem but they can be avoided. The trail is part of the Farmington Valley Greenway Rails to Trails project and what a beautiful area it is. This section of the trail is fully paved. Please refer to their website www.fvgreenway.org for further info. Note that although the trail itself is wheelchair accessible, the actual off-trail cache area is not. Also beware of icy spots in the winter. The trail and parking lot can be very slippery. This section of the trail is gorgeous, even during the stark bareness of winter when it was originally placed. The walk to the cache is surrounded completely by forest and long sections of those beautiful man-made rock walls. As I continued down the trail I noticed a bridge coming up. I was soon greeted by the sound of running water. Then I noticed a lively babbling brook rushing over little rapids and ultimately flowing over a section of the rock wall. There were many places to hide the cache at this point but my curiosity got the better of me as I noticed another little bridge up ahead. Sure enough, there was another stream, meandering through the countryside, flowing over rocks and ultimately under the bridge. This place is truly amazing – even in winter! In order to minimize the amount of disruption to the area and to compensate for the GPS jump, I will give you very clear directions to the general vicinity of the cache. You will see a white birch tree on the right side of the trail approximately 75’ from the second bridge. From there, look to the right where you will see several downed trees. The cache is less than 50’ from the trail. There is no need to bushwhack. Please bring your own pencil. Please leave the area undisturbed and, as the sign at the entrance says,“Keep the trail clean. If you carry it in, you carry it out.” Happy Caching.
