You will have to work out the co-ordinates from a clue when you reach the pub and also a pub quiz question given at the bottom of this page before you do this cache. There is no need to enter the pub as all clues are outside, so this series is suitable for families with children. You will also find in each cache a number to work out the final cache. Except for the final cache, you can do them in any order.

Wirral has so many lovely pubs from quiet relaxing pubs, child friendly pubs and also pubs with great entertainment. Best of all we have lots of “Real Ale” pubs. This series, we hope will hi-light some of our fantastic pubs. There is a FTF in every cache and a Trophy in the final cache. Please don’t take the trophy unless you have done all the pubs and signed the logbooks.

Situated in the neat little hamlet of Ness is the Wheatsheaf. It’s not our favourite type of pub, it’s more what we would call a community pub. It has no “Real Ales”, has a dart board, pool tables, game machines and quite loud music. On the other hand we thought this pub to be of interest. It has won the good food award and also won awards for its high standard of food hygiene. It’s a very friendly pub where most people know each other. It has a children’s playground in the back of the pub. It also has a very famous cottage over the road ( you will pass this on the way to the cache). It’s Swan Cottage, where Emily Lyon was born. She was later Lady Hamilton, Nelson’s mistress. The villagers were recently successful in their campaign to restrict the opening hours of the pub to 2:30 am. They felt it would increase the current noise level and safety around the village . Their license is now for 11:30 weekdays and 12:30 weekends. So power to the people of Ness.
