The Cove was founded in 1944 by a group of individuals dedicated to establishing a retirement home for the elderly of industrial Cape Breton. The Cove started out as a small home in a facility acquired from the Sydney Steel Company. Over the years, the Cove became a first class nursing home with 108 beds. Special programs were developed to meet the geriatric health, social and spiritual needs of the residents. Today - Now there are new horizons. The old home on King's Road was replaced ( and torn down ) by a new building on Alexandra Street. It overlooks the Sydney harbour admiring Westmount and North Sydney. On a clear day you can even see Cape Smokey.
