Oatka Creek park is a lovely little park near Scottsville NY. The
park features Oatka Creek, slightly rolling hills, hardwoods and
open fields.
For maps of Oatka Creek Park, visit the
Monroe
County Parks web site.
Suggested parking at N43 00.354 W77 47.541. You can park by the
lodge but be warned the gate closes at 3:00pm.
This multicache will feel very familiar to people who attended
my poker run November 2005; however, don't bother trying to cheat
and skip ahead. I did not reuse any of the hiding locations from
the event.
Within and near the park are Oatka Creek and train tracks. There
is no need to cross the tracks or enter the creek for any of the
waypoints in this cache. Also, like many parks, Oatka Creek was
once a farm and there are many places where old barbed wire can
catch unwary feet and legs.
The final cache is small and only has room for a log book and
small travel bugs. Please do not clutter it with trade items.
Expect to hike for about 4 miles and find 5 waypoints in addition
to the final cache. The waypoints are small camoflaged pill
containers or bison tubes (small metal tubes the size of two finger
joints) and, in general, are easy to find. I would like to take
this time now to appologize for waypoint 3. See hint for
details.
Update: I have added a hint to waypoint 3 to help people find
it.
