Geocache Description:

At Red Heather day cabin, on the Elfin Lakes trail, container is a tupperware type small sealed plastic food container (spray painted flat black) with log book, pencil some of my cards in it with e-mail address and website on card, and a few trade items. Cache hidden under a pilon for the cabin (see photo).

From Hway 99, at the Garibaldi Park (Diamond Head), Mamquam Rd exit (at the Canadian Tire store in Garibaldi Heights), just past Squamish, it's 15 kms and 1000 m up on a gravel, generally decent road, at least to the last 4 kms, which although a bit rough, is driveable in a regular car (we were in a Toyota Corolla). On Jan 2, 2006, we used chains for the last 1.5 kms. Be very careful on the way down at that point, the road is steep and the curve sharp. You wouldn't want to go straight through.

I've done this hike both in summer and winter. In summer, beware of BEARS (this is bear country) and wear sunscreen. In winter, don't venture up there without skis or snowshoes (we went on snowshoes). Make sure somebody knows where you are if you don't make it back when due. On the other hand, my cell phone worked at Red Heather day cabin.

Cache is under the back (north) end of the cabin, under the firewood stash. There's a rafter underneath that porch (see photo). However, depending on the amount of snow in winter, this cache may or may not be accessible.
