Flat, broad cycling path all the way. Can be bit muddy (not deep). Easy for the kids. Easy find, but gloves may help.
Very pleasant walk, maybe half a mile, along old railway line, now a linear park. Walk on either 'bank' or down the middle. Popular with dog walkers.
Decent sized 'tupperware' container filled with toys for younger children - to encourage them out on the walk!
Don't go at night as the 'ghost train' still runs nightly!
