Geocache Description:

Cache container is a two quart container. The First to Find prize is a Texas Geocoin. The walk to cache is 250 feet from parking across knee deep grass. While at this site you may want to visit the remains of the old camp theatre. It can be found by taking bearing 120 True and going 220' from the actual cache site.

During WWII 425,000 Axis prisoners of war were shipped across the Alantic and interred at camps across the United States. Approximately 4,800 soldiers of Germany's African Corps were held at Camp Hearne from 1943 until 1945. The slabs and several concrete lined fountains are all that remain of the camp. For a detailed history of Camp Hearne check out Dr. Michael Waters' web site at (visit link) I suggest checking the site before visiting the Ritz Fritz geocache, as you might want to bushwack to several of the structures. Suggested parking for bushwacking tour of Camp Hearne is N 30 53. 075 W 096 37.006. Be warned that the brush is thick and there is plenty of P.I.
