This cache was adopted by Phetlern from Ian-and-Penny on 24.12.2011.
The Geelong-Queenscliff railway was established in 1879 to service the military fort at Queenscliff, and soon became a popular service with visitors heading to the coastal holiday resort because it was an alternative to the bay paddle steamers.
Eventually, with diminishing freight and a lack of patronage, the service finally closed in 1976. Although in more recent times, the Bellarine Peninsula Railway operates steam trips between the old Queenscliff Railway Station and Drysdale every Sunday.
If your timing is right, you will be able to see the Iron Horse pass the cache location on its journey between Queenscliff & Drysdale.
The cache itself is a 1 litre screw top container that has been painted/camouflaged to blend in with its surroundings, and contains an assortment of goodies.
When logging your find on line, your feedback will be extremely useful - so please add something about your Geocaching experience in your log, even just the condition of the container would help. Logs that are blank, or only contain the words "sent from my mobile device" will be deleted.
