Yuma feeds the World!
Agriculture is one of Yuma's biggest industries and offers year round farming. Yuma produces much of the nations lettuce and approximately 95% of the country's winter vegetables. Vegetable crops are planted from late August through late January. Many kinds of lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, melons and cabbage are grown in Yuma. Many of the vegetables are processed at one of the many salad processing plants where the lettuce and cabbage are sliced, diced, rinsed, packaged and then shipped to dinner tables around the world. Other crops such as alfalfa, corn, wheat, barley, cotton and safflower are planted from December through August. Over 17,000 acres of citrus such as lemons, oranges and grapefruit round out the agricultural base in Yuma.
