Geocache Description:

Roadside cache (at 1433m asl) – about the size of a fist, white and too small for trading – bring own pen! There is no need to get over any fences and trespass on private property to find this cache.

Park safely at the locked gate at S30° 34.173 E026° 47.109 – and walk 50m to the south along the fence to view a small monument (Mon #1) commemorating the Anglo Boer War. This was first erected during the war by Cmdt JH Olivier and the burghers of the Rouxville-Zastron Commando in October 1899. It was renovated in Oct 1938 when the centenary of Great Trek into the interior of South Africa was celebrated. PLEASE TAKE PHOTOS ONLY AND DO NOT ENTER INTO THE PRIVATE LAND!!!

The cache is hidden in the road reserve ±700m from the parking place – follow indications of your GPSr and you will eventually get to it. DO NOT CROSS THE FENCE INTO PRIVATE LAND AT ANY TIME – THEN YOU ARE DRIFTING TOO FAR TO THE EAST. From the cache you will have a magnificent view over the Orange River Valley (the border between Free State Province and the Eastern Cape) with Aliwal North in the distance and Kramberg far off to the south west.

Another small monument (Mon #2) commemorating the Great Trek can be viewed a few kilometres to the South on the N6 – S30° 36.347 E026°45.775. Once again: PLEASE DO NOT ENTER INTO PRIVATE PROPERTY!

Close up pics of the monuments are posted here.
