Geocache Description:

An interesting place where the remains of the main workings of one of Port Augusta’s old salt works is located.

The area is mainly mudflats and mangroves which is vital for the ecology and as a breeding ground for many species of fish and crustaceans.
This place demonstrates how the unrelenting ocean tide slowly but surely erodes anything man puts in its way.
Be aware!!!!! Although you can drive (and lots do) across a man made dirt causeway to within a hundred meters of the cache over the years several vehicle owners have sat and watched the tide fill their bogged 4x4 vehicles with salt water!!. Drive the last 500 odd meters from the concrete part of the causeway at your own peril… With a small amount of care two wheel drive vehicles can easily get to within 200 – 300 meters of the causeway.
Also note that although the tidal hight change is not extreme, there can be fast tidal currents through narrow creeks and constrictions.
