Geocache Description:

Victoria has many great neighbourhoods, and this cache will give you a chance to explore one of my favourites, Fairfield. All stages of this cache are found within Fairfield (bounded by Cook Street to the West, Rockland Avenue to the North, Foul Bay Road to the East, and the Pacific Ocean to the south). All stages are within walking distance of each other, though some might prefer to drive. Have fun!

1. Start by going to the above coordinates, which will take you to Squirrelly D’s favourite establishment for caffeinated beverages. Note the three digit address of this establishment. Now look directly across the street at the competition. Again, note the three digit address. Subtract the smaller number from the larger number and multiply your answer by four. Call this number “A”. Add “A” to both of the following coordinates: 10 474097E, 5362360N. Proceed to these new coordinates.

2. You should be standing in front of a brick building. Note the year that this building was erected, and call this number “B”. Find the route number of the BC Transit bus that travels this street, multiply this number by 100, and call your answer “C”. Add “B” to the following easting: 10 473658. Add “C” to the following northing: 5361842. Proceed to these new coordinates.

Note: you should be able to find the bus route on an object within visual range of where you are standing.

3. You should now be standing in front of another brick building. Find the year this building was built, and call this number “D”. Subtract “D” from the following coordinates: 10 477160E, 5364173N. Proceed to these new coordinates.

4. You should now be standing in the general area of a plaque. To get to the next stage, add the year on the plaque to both the easting and the northing of the following coordinates: 10 473361E, 5359813N

5. At these new coordinates, you should find a plastic white sign attached to concrete. On this sign is a three digit number – call this number “E”. From the coordinates you calculated in Stage 4, proceed 249 + “E” metres at a bearing of 328 degrees true.

6. You should now be standing near an object commemorating “Dad”. Note “Dad’s” first name, then proceed 246 metres at a bearing of 252.4 degrees true. Here you should find a tall object surrounded by a black gate commemorating “Charles” and “Samuel”. Note Charles and Samuel’s last name (it is the same for both).

7. Proceed to the intersection of the street that shares Dad’s first name and the street that shares Charles/Samuel’s last name. Here you will find a fire hydrant with a three digit number on it. Call this number “F”. From the fire hydrant, proceed 113.5 + “F” metres at a bearing of 363 – “F” degrees true.

8. You should now be standing in front of a sculpture. At the base of this sculpture you will find two plaques. Together, these plaques contain a two digit number, a three digit number, and a four digit number. Add all of these numbers together and call your answer “G”. Add “G” to the following easting and northing: 10 472119E, 5359881N. Proceed to these new coordinates.

9. You should now be standing in front of an object dedicated to “John”. Don’t worry, you’re almost there! To get to the final cache, start at this object and go 75 metres on a bearing of 23.4 degrees true.
