“INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST”
The Indiana Spirit Quest series of
geocaches will take you to a number of historic cemeteries
built by Hoosier Pioneers. In just over a year and a half, the
quest has grown to over four hundred twenty caches hidden in over
forty Indiana counties, and Ohio and Michigan and the hiders have
grown to over twenty cacher teams, most of which of which are
comprised of Dogs and their Humans. Over
900 cacher teams have logged over 10,700 finds. One cache machine
found 102 ISQ caches in a single day (daylight hours
only).

"FAIRVIEW CEMETERY"
FAIRVIEW/HIX/BRADFORD CEMETERY
The Wesleyan Methodist people built a
church in Washington Township, N. 1/2 of the S.E. 1/4 of Section #
16 Range 8 E. Twp. 25 N., Grant County, and called it Fairview.
This was in 1862. The building was destroyed by fire and has never
been rebuilt. Some of the leading members and trustees of that
early day are buried here. Hummel Creek flows to the south. There
are 20 Bradfords buried her from 1855 to 1943 and at least 17 Hix's
(1878 to 1976.
The following narrative was taken from
"Whitson's History of Grant County" – 1914: "Fairview (Wesleyan
Methodist) in the central part of the township was built in 1862
and dedicated in the same year. Services on dedication were
conducted by Reverend Matlock of New York. The first trustees were
Christopher Sears, Casper Bradford, Noah S. Bradford and George
Camblin.
AUNT POLLY
One of the leading members of this
church was Aunt Polly Bond. Her husband, Moses Bond, died in 1854
and for more than fifty years she remained loyal to his name,
bearing the burdens and responsibilities of the home with
unflinching courage. Her name was a household word in almost every
home in Washington (Twp.) for more than a half a century. She was
the mother of Joseph and Benjamin Bond, who were well and favorably
known all over Grant county."
Among the Civil WAr veterans buried here, are Benjamin Hix
(1841-1889) who did two tours with Co. F 34th Indiana Infantry and
Jesse Miller (1845-1918) of Co. L 8th Indiana Cavalry (34th Inf.)
and William Taylor who served in Co. D, 54th Indiana Infantry.
These crypts are rarely seen at rural
cemeteries...
