Eyrie Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Ngaambul: As there's been either no response from the cache owner, no cache to find or log to sign, or it's been longer than 28 days since the last reviewer note. I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace/make available the cache sometime in the near future (next 28 days), just contact us (by email) once the cache is in place, and assuming it meets the current guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it. Should you replace the cache after 28 days has passed please create a new cache listing so it can be reviewed as a new cache.

Geocache Description:

An easy cache at one of the most spectacular views on the south coast and one of the best coastal hang gliding sites in Australia.

Click here to see a video of how beautiful it is from the air (and a preview of GZ).

The original is back! After it was muggled a couple of years ago, I moved it to another location. That was also muggled. Someone contacted me and said that they accidentally removed the original during a cleanup, so I picked it up from him. This is the same container in almost the same position as the original. It's easy to spot!

EYRIE
n : the lofty nest of a bird of prey (such as a hawk or eagle)

The difficulty rating of 2.5 is because of the high muggle factor. This is a premier hang gliding spot and therefore attracts flyers and crowds of muggles when the wind is blowing anywhere from South through to East.

On weekends and holidays when it's nice weather it will be particularly difficult to retrieve.

Having said that, most of the time, the crowds will be some distance from where the cache is located.

Keep a look out for the magnificent White-breasted Sea Eagles and Grey Goshawks that are resident in this area. They may be seen regularly flying above GZ.

Occasionally a Sea Eagle will fly with you just off the trailing edge of the wing of the hang glider and shadow your every move. It's a special experience and makes you realize that they are the masters of this aerial domain. We are just clumsy visitors to their skies.

It's worth checking out the 3 plaques about 50m south of GZ that describe the history of hang gliding and how they manage to stay up for hours.
