Have you ever pined for a cache you can do after work or just wait to do until dark? Now you can stop pining and hunt Night Pines. You’ll need a GPSr, a portable light (the stronger the better) and a sunset.
Night Pines is a combined effort of Oldtimer, Falisene, Corky and Hunt&Peck. Each one of us made a substantial contribution to the overall effort. It required us to coordinate the general cache site, the marked route from start to final, the name of the cache, the cache contents and the final location complete with signature.
There is limited automobile parking close to the listed coordinates. There are even a few trees to lean a bicycle against and there is also a rail if you need to tie a horse. Now, on to the adventure of Night Pines.
WARNING: Before you even think about starting Night Pines, mark your beginning location. You may or may not be able to find this starting point without doing that. Be doubly sure you have fresh batteries for your GPSr and your torch so you will be able to survive this adventure.
Begin your quest at the listed coordinates. Hold your light at eye-level and pan the area until you see a reflecting dot. Proceed to that dot and repeat the sequence of panning at eye-level until you see the next reflecting dot. There are several parts to find along the Night Pines route. When you have almost completed the marked route, you will see a two-inch red reflective tape that indicates the final location. The final cache is located within a few feet of this tape.
The final cache is contained in an ammunition box. It holds a few items to trade and a log book to sign. Our entire group, in the excitement of hiding the cache, forgot to put a pencil or pen in the box, so bring your own. If any of us returns to the area before it is found, we will add a pencil.
There is an incentive for the geocacher who is first to find (FTF) Night Pines. Somewhere within the ammunition box is enough USD to pay for your gas to and from, perhaps a new tire for your bike an/or some hay for your horse. If you feel the reward is too great, feel free to leave change to share with the cache owners. There is also a Yellow Jeep Travel Bug (YJTB) in the cache.
On behalf of Hunt&Peck, Oldtimer, Falisene and Corky; we wish you a fun caching experience.
