Geocache Description:

BACKGROUND:

In 1887 former slaves Harriet and Peter McCoy purchased land and settled on the site of what would subsequently become known as the Hufsmith community. Both lie at rest here, alongside family members and neighbors; the last burials took place in the 1940s. To mark the Texas Sesquicentennial in 1986, descendants of the McCoys restored the cemetery and erected a commemorative monument.
