A few miles up river from Fowey lies the small waterside village of Golant. The village has a population of 200 – 300 and is a centre for traditional boatbuilding and yachting.
PLEASE TRY TO AVOID CHURCH SERVICE TIMES WHEN SEARCHING FOR THIS CACHE TO AVOID IT BEING MUGGLED - AGAIN!
The Well can be found by the south door of the church. It has water in it, but nowadays has little other charm. The church of St Sampson is said to be on the site of where St Sampson established a shelter for himself on his journey from Ireland, through Wales, Cornwall and on to Brittany. It was consecrated in 1509, although some parts are said to date back to 1200 AD. The church occupies a position above the village of Golant and there is ample layby parking nearby.
Once you have found the cache a short walk downhill from the church leads you into the village, which is worth visiting. There is a pub, which serves food and along the river-front road there are also public toilets.
You are looking for a 35mm film canister containing a log book. Please bring your own pen/pencil to record your visit.
There is some tree cover in the area which could result in confusing GPS signals - just use your 'geocachers nose'.
