Geocache Description:

A short walk through Cluny Hill, suitable for pushchairs & bikes.Parking and toilets available at NJ043593. Excellent views of Findhorn Bay and the surrounding area.

Helges Hole is an interesting and curious formation which has enshrined in the hearts of the natives of Forres many wonderfull and captivating experiences. It is thought that at one time the centre of this hollow was raised to form a cricket field or at least a ground for sports. When levelling was going on in 1870,a skeleton was found some depth below the surface! This was said to be that of a suicide case around 1810. When you have found the cache, why not visit nearby Nelsons Tower? This was built in 1806 by the Forres Trafalgar Club to commemorate Nelson's victory and death at that battle. It was also the first monument erected to him after his death and the most northerly of all Britain's Nelson monuments. The octagonal 21-metre tower was opened in 1812 and stands above what is now Grant Park. It was built in the gothic style by Charles Stewart and the 96 steps to the roof reveal spectacular views of the Moray Firth. Opening times are :May to September 2-4pm.Free entry.
