Up Grotto canyon with some amazing natural scenery
The hike to the cache differs from season to season. Hikes in the winter may be easier with proper footwear. A total round trip is about 5km.
In winter, ice crampons are strongly recommended as you are walking up the frozen stream bed (crampons can be rented at the U of C outdoor rentals for $3, called instep crampons). Once you split off from the frozen stream bed, you will be following a run-off stream bed (dry except in spring), very rocky.
In summer, you will have to cross the creek several times sticking to paths on the sides. You will still be walking up a creek bed, sometimes dry, sometimes not. A good pair of hiking boots are also highly recommended.
Apart from the canyon walls, other attractions are native pictographs, frozen(winter) waterfalls which often have ice climbers, and a cave near the cache site. Be sure to bring a camera with lots of film (or with an empty memory card).
Cache is in a conifer forest, not far from the stream bed. You are looking for a medium sized lock 'n' lock container which has been covered in camo duct tape. Cache contains the typical trading items.
