Geocache Description:

Located across and down the street from the mansion, plumbing container, halloween items are always cool

If you look up the road on the corner of Delap rd and Maple Grove you will see the gothic Mathews Mansion. In the early 1860's John Mathews built the house for his wife and 13 children of limestone from this area where the cache is hidden. It was just before he completed this house when three of his sons were sent away to the Civil War to perrish. He later lost one of his sons due to an explosion caused by a fleu pipe from the fireplace. But the death that caused him the most greif was his youngest son that died for no reason that they could find.
He had a portrait of that son painted and hung on the wall with a lock of the boys hair between the canvas and tha frame. It is said that he was so greived about this that he put his sons body in one of the closets and bricked off the entrance. To this day the picture still hangs and the closet with no door is still there. They say at night you can see a boy in the upstairs window with a candle lit trying to keep the darkness away. Also, people that have stayed there say they have heard children laughing and playing in the still of the night. Happy CAching~~~ Ichabod GOrey
